About eco-friendly lead free pewter

 
Glover & Smith are members of The Association of British Pewter Craftsmen and
most of our designs carry the quality marks of the Association.

Pewter has been used in the home for around 3,000 years. Modern pewter is 92% pure tin and added
to this are small amounts of copper and other metals to give additional strength. It is a plentiful, non-
toxic resource and tin mining has little or no impact on the environment. This eco-friendly metal does
not need polishing like silver and it does not go grey like old pewter (this is the lead content)

Lead free pewter is the favourite metal of the World Wildlife Fund. Glover and smith also design and
make for Prince Charles' Highgrove Estate and The National Trust.

Lead free pewter doesn't react with food stuffs unlike other precious metals, and because Glover &
Smith products are made from solid lead free pewter the surface will never flake or chip.

In bathrooms our light pulls will never rust. With a minimum of care your pewter ware will retain its
shiny patina. Simply wipe with soapy water. No need to use abrasive cleaners or polishes; however
we do not recommend dishwasher cleaning.
