chestnut for our spoons

The American Chestnut is a large, deciduous hardwood tree of the beech family native to eastern North America and symbolises:
longevity, fertility, provision, abundance
and invigoration!

Unlike the knife, the spoons friendly and feminine
character makes an ideal gift or souvenir; an expression of love, commitment and memory.

Spooning can also mean kissing, caressing or even
courting, there is a Welsh custom of lovers carving
love spoons for each other.

The gift of a spoon implies caring and themed spoons
imply empathy: the tree lover’s spoon, the nature
lover’s spoon. The giving of such spoons recognises
the passions and personality of the recipient.

Glover and Smith jar spoons, jam spoons, preserve spoons, marmalade spoons, sugar spoons, serving spoons and honey spoons, All lovingly handmade by us in Wiltshire.

Beech trees are members of the Fagaceae family, Fagus Grandifolia, the American beech, is the only member of the genus native to North America. Fagus Sylvatica is common in Europe.

"Fagus" is derived from a Greek word, meaning "to eat", possibly a reference to the tree's edible fruit. The common name, "beech" is from Teutonic languages and may be derived from a word meaning "book". Some sources suggest that ancient runes were written on beechwood tablets or slabs. Fagus was an ancient Celtic tree god.

Dreaming of sitting under a chestnut tree is symbolic of happy times ahead!
