Did you know...
The word Cherub is usually used for what are
strictly known as Putti.

The Putto is a figure of a human baby or
toddler, almost always naked and having wings,
found especially in Italian Renaissance and
Baroque art.

Putti are distinct from Cherubim, but modern
English has blurred the distinction, the plural,
"Cherubim" refers to the literal biblical angels,
while "cherubs" is used more often to refer to
the childlike representations.

The word putto comes from the Italian word
"putti" meaning "small boy" or "child", but
today is used only with the specific
meaning of the winged child-like figures
in art.
