This bowl is based on a Roman Snail
shell, which is Britain's largest snail.




The lack of fossil evidence of this species
suggests that it may have been introduced
to these shores as a source of food, most
probably by the Romans; hence the name.

The Roman Snail is now so rare that it has
legal protection in the UK.
