The Owl and the Pussycat
"O let us be married! too long we have tarried:
But what shall we do for a ring?" - Edward Lear
The famous nonsense poem by Edward Lear was first published in 1871. Featuring four animals – an owl, cat, pig, and turkey, the poem tells the story of the love between the title characters, who marry in the land "where the Bong-tree grows".
The term "runcible" as in runcible spoon, was invented for the poem.
The oval shaped ring is approx. 6 cm (2.4”) long by 2.5 cm (1”) high. The cat is 3 cm (1.2”) tall and the owl is 2.2 cm (0.9”).
Both napkin rings are presented in an organza gift bag with care instructions.
Hand crafted Pewter Gifts for Couples
Every set of Glover and Smith napkin rings are hand crafted in the UK from polished, solid lead-free pewter which is non-tarnishing (that was the lead in old pewter) and completely nickel-free and food safe.
Because our designs are all created in solid metal, the surface of your owl and pussycat serviette rings will never flake like a silver plated napkin rings. To clean, simply wash with warm soapy water.
All Glover and Smith pewter animal designs are made exclusively by us in our workshops in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
